“Our organization is now very focused on top objectives and in agreement as to what success looks like!” – The Media Trust
A candid conversation with Niles Rowland, Director, Product Management, The Media Trust
Would you provide a quick overview of your company?
We identify and resolve security, privacy, and quality issues on company mobile apps and websites, 24/7.
What do you know now that you wish you'd known when you started doing OKRs?
Alignment from the top down through the company is necessary for OKRs to be truly successful. Thinking in terms of results or outcomes versus outputs is essential to wrap everyone’s heads around what success looks like.
What were you using for OKRs prior to Atiim?
We did not have a formal company strategy, or department plans to meet overall company objectives.
Why did you choose Atiim?
Based upon a recommendation.
How did you approach rolling out your initial OKRs to your team? What challenges did you overcome during this process that you didn't expect?
We started with the leadership team and let them take a “bottom-up” approach. While the teams became familiar with the platform and adopted a more strategic mindset, this approach proved to be ineffective due to the overwhelming number of team objectives.
For the next quarter, we used a “top-down” approach and distributed company-wide objectives to guide the individual teams and help them better align, which created a more orderly approach.
I didn’t expect teams to create so many initial objectives, as people generally resist being measured. The mere fact that they were open to it, demonstrated their enthusiasm for OKRs.
Has using Atiim improved culture, execution, teamwork, and alignment?
The organization is now very focused on objectives and are in agreement as to “what success looks like.” Atiim offers an invaluable look back at our previous quarter; which allows us to continuously improve as we move forward.
